Old Man Winter Is Still Here

As noted in a a few days ago in one of my other blog posts, Old Man Winter is not done just yet...
As of this late evening/early morning, the NWSFO in Tulsa has issued a Winter Storm Warning For my CWA to include Tulsa and surrounding areas. As can be seen in the graphic below, it looks like we could see anywhere between 1-4 inches with locally higher amounts possible.
This forecast has been nothing short of tricky simply due to the temps at low levels and not knowing what kind of precip will actually fall, but the snow totals are pretty much on course with the output of the NAM model as seen below.
We are currently seeing snow right now as can be seen in the radar graphic I pulled just a little bit ago. Bottom line is that it could be a messy morning for traffic across much of Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Right now (12:00am Monday morning) it looks as though the brunt of the heavy snow should fall along and north of I-44 and possibly as far north as HWY 412 and points north. Tricky part is going to be what the temps do just above the surface....if they warm just a little, then we could be dealing with more of a sleet and freezing rain event or even an ice event.
While this system will be short lived, it is certainly possible to have at least a few power outages and the like as well as messy roads through Monday....if you live in these areas, please be careful this morning especially if you have to travel as bridges and overpasses will be a big problem.
I will try to post some video later if I have time to get out and get some.

DEADLY STORM SYSTEM POSSIBLE!!!!! 1/17/12

As can be seen in the graphics below, a powerful storm system is taking aim on the upper West coast at this time bringing with it very strong winds and major snow.

Current RUC sounding was so enlarged that the Hodo was off the chart! But as we can see below, winds from the basement (ground level) through 200mb) are very very strong with gusts over 80kts!

I looking at the at the surface winds via the RUC for the same time frame (real time) 12z we can see that the winds at the surface could be gusting well over-60-65kts! which is almost Hurricane force winds@ 74MPH at the surface!!! This is going to create a very dangerous situation for the folks in the upper northwest coast, especially people who live right along the coast!

Of course the snow depth looks to be in the 10-20inch range, depending on where you are located so blizzard like conditions will no doubt be a possibility as can be seen in the graphic below.

All in all, this storm system certainly could be deadly if people do not pay attention to the weather. I would encourage the folks living in this area to monitor the weather very close today!

New Pictures and More Winter Weather???

A few pics of my daughter Alex that I took
Potential for another winter storm??

Going over the latest weather models, it appears that our next storm system will effect my CWA (mortheast OK) and southern Kansas Wednesday afternoon through Thursday night.
The above map via NWSFO in Norman, shows the possible position of the cold front early Thursday. As you can see, it appears that we could see some possible sleet and snow during this time frame as the current track of the low places it just south of the Red River in Texas However; depending on the track, we could be looking at some pretty good snow amounts or a possible significant ice storm.
At the very least we will probably see some sleet/ice late Wed and then turning over to snow early on Thursday morning.....old man winter is certainly not done yet!
Something to keep an eye on!!!
